OMG’s Berisha, Shaw achieve industry credentials

Organization Management Group’s senior accountant Flora Berisha earned the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential in December.

The CPA credential is recognized around the world in all industries and is considered one of most difficult credentials to achieve.  Qualifications include:  education (150 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university; a bachelor’s or higher degree; an accounting concentration or equivalent; experience in industry; and passing four rigorous exams that test one’s  knowledge in all aspects of business.

Berisha has gained extensive experience across several areas of the accounting profession, through accountant, economic development officer, and chief financial officer and management roles in Eastern Europe and the United States. She has a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Tirana (Albania) and studied accounting and finance at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, as well. She joined Organization Management Group (OMG) in 2008 and plays a vital role in day-to-day operations, from handling budget preparations to analyzing financial data.

Berisha is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Anna Shaw, CMP | Associate Conferences & Conventions Coordinator
In November, Anna Shaw, an associate conferences and conventions coordinator within the Meeting Strategies International (MSI) division of OMG, achieved her Certified Meeting Professional certification. This credential, administered through the Event Industry Council, is recognized globally in the meeting, convention, exhibition and event industry.

A graduate of Florida State University, Shaw joins a community of over 11,000 meeting professionals in 55 countries around the world who hold the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification. Shaw joined OMG in 2014. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure administration, Shaw began working in the hotel industry. Her prior experience includes event and conference planning, contract negotiations, customer service, administrative, and database management.

Qualifications for the CMP certification include a minimum of three years’ professional experience, 25 hours of education and passing a rigorous exam. For team members whose positions are dedicated to meeting planning, OMG’s MSI is now comprised of 100 percent planners with the CMP designation.

The Event Industry Council launched the CMP program in 1985 to enhance meeting professionals’ knowledge and performance, to promote the credibility and status of the meeting profession, and to advance uniform standards of practice. According to the Council, the “CMP credential is recognized globally as the badge of excellence in the meeting, convention, exhibition and event industry.”

OMG encourages and supports team members in the pursuit of professional education and certifications in their chosen work areas, and is proud of Berisha’s and Shaw’s accomplishment.
